Seriously, even if you get 700 yards as QB in the College National Championship, a guy with a HEART DEFECT still gets your starting job forcing you to change positions to be a Wide Receiver or a Running Back or entering the Draft. Face of Franchise has the most bogged down, cheesy, nonsensical story out there. It is only available in the yard with some of them behind a paywall. The biggest slap in the face is the mouthguards, which EA has repeatably said they "Don't have enough resources for". The game mode, of course, has micro-transactions within it for gear and equipment for your avatar. The Yard is a good idea on paper and if this was executed better I would be saying praises of it, but like I said earlier, first-person-shooter engine. For something EA has shown a large amount of care towards, even putting what is basically ads in your game telling you to play MUT, is absolutely broken. MUT is EA's big moneymaker and yet they have botched the launch already with many of their loyal fans reporting MUT's servers kicking them off whenever they open a pack or not even receiving their players they pre-ordered. Madden has gone off the deep end in quality and gameplay, who knew that using a game engine meant for first-person shooters is not very compatible with a football game? Considering that this game was developed with almost everyone working from home (Tiburon is in Orlando, FL), it is hard to say they didn't do a good job. Ultimately, an iteration of Madden is judged by how well a dev team does this. I will say that it is hard to review the game on August 30 because you need to run through a cycle of people with websites finding the holes in the coding and exploiting them. In general, man defense and zone defense feel fine to me. I have not played the story mode or franchise mode. You could argue that The Yard makes this worth purchasing by itself. The Yard is a forward-thinking and fun arcade mode built by the same team that built Superstar KO. In the past, they had a situation where there were hundreds of solos and you felt buried in them. MUT has simplified the UI and the solos in order to make the completion of them feel possible. Thus, 885 people have chosen to leave a negative review while those of us who enjoy the game just kind of play and chill out a little bit. It’s hard to say where the franchise stands now in what it’s trying to accomplish with Madden NFL 21, but hopefully a new generation will bring a new experience. The gameplay is faster and the running game is more overpowered and that goes along with Superstar X-Factor 2.0. There are still legacy issues and bugs including Cam Newton being introduced as the Panthers quarterback even though it’s stated he’s on the Patriots. The team also removed stats before starting a game. While the marketing has changed as the game lacks that true NFL feel, I do think the introductions are cool. Load times and transitions seem to be slow and it makes going through the fluff of MUT annoying. Face of the Franchise continues to improve, but the fact an entire game has to be played on both sides of the ball just to extend the life of the mode is aggravating. The Yard is a mode that nobody asked for, and even if worth a shot, ended up shortsighted in its execution. While it’s the best-looking version we’ve seen to date, EA Tiburon seems to have swayed the game in a different direction with new modes that keep you busy rather than engaged.
